2. Our services and the basis we act on
We are an introducer: we introduce your business to third-party providers and help you through their application or switching process. The provider, not us, makes the final decision and supplies the product. We do not give advice or personal recommendations on finance, insurance or any other product.
| Service | What we do | Who advises |
|---|---|---|
| Business energy (electricity, gas, water) | Gather quotes from suppliers on our panel and help with the switch | Information and comparison; you choose |
| Broadband, phone, payment solutions | Compare and introduce you to providers | Information and comparison; you choose |
| Business finance (loans, merchant cash advance, invoice and asset finance) | Introduce you to lenders and help prepare applications | The lender |
| Business insurance (public liability, professional indemnity, cyber, key person, property) | Introduce you to insurers and insurance intermediaries | The insurance partner |
| Solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, grant checks | Introduce you to MCS-certified installers | The installer, based on its survey |
| Business consulting | Introduce you to consultants | The consultant, under its own engagement letter |
Where a service is information only, you are responsible for deciding whether a product suits your business.
3. Regulatory status
Finance and insurance. We act as an introducer. Our finance and insurance partners are responsible for holding any authorisation their activities require, and any advice comes from them. You can check a partner's status on the FCA Register at register.fca.org.uk.
Some business finance products, including most loans to limited companies over £25,000, merchant cash advances and invoice finance, are not regulated by the FCA, and the Financial Ombudsman Service may not be able to consider complaints about them.
Energy. Business energy brokers are not directly licensed by Ofgem. Energy suppliers may only work with brokers who belong to a qualifying dispute-resolution scheme, and we are registered with the Energy Ombudsman.
Solar and heat pumps. Installations are carried out by independent MCS-certified installers under their own contract with you.
Data. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC130857.
4. How we are paid
Our service is free to you. We do not charge you a fee for comparing or introducing energy, finance or insurance products unless we agree one with you in writing first. We are paid by the provider you choose, usually as a commission or introduction fee.
| Service | Who pays us | How it reaches you |
|---|---|---|
| Business energy | The supplier | Added to your unit rate (p/kWh) and/or standing charge for the full contract term |
| Broadband, phone, water, payment solutions | The provider | Included in the provider's charges or paid from their margin |
| Business finance | The lender | A fee or percentage of the amount borrowed, which may be included in your cost of borrowing |
| Business insurance | The insurance partner | A share of the premium you pay |
| Solar and heat pumps | The installer | An introduction fee, which may be included in the price you pay the installer |
| Consulting | The consultant | An introduction fee. Consulting fees are agreed between you and the consultant |
Energy commission disclosure. Before you agree any energy contract we will tell you, in writing, the commission included: the uplift in pence per kWh (and on the standing charge, if any), the estimated annual amount and the estimated total over the contract, based on the consumption figures used for your quote. Your supplier must also show it in your contract's principal terms.
Commission can vary between providers and products. You may ask us at any time how much we will receive, and we will tell you. We never recommend a product mainly because it pays us more.
5. Our panel and independence
We work with a selected panel of partners we have agreements with (170+ across all our services), not the whole market. A list of the providers we use is available on request. Some products are available only directly from a provider, so a better deal may exist outside our panel.
6. Your responsibilities
- Give us complete and accurate information, including meter numbers (MPAN/MPRN), consumption, contract end dates, accounts and claims history.
- Tell us promptly about any change that could affect a quote, application or policy.
- Read every quote, contract, policy wording and credit agreement before you sign it. The provider's terms govern the product.
- For insurance, answer every question honestly and with reasonable care. Failing to disclose a material fact may let an insurer refuse a claim or cancel your policy.
- Only sign a Letter of Authority for energy if you are authorised to act for the business.
7. Your data
We share your details only with the providers relevant to your enquiry, our service providers (such as our CRM and website hosting), and regulators where the law requires. Lenders and insurers may run credit, fraud and anti-money-laundering checks, which can leave a record on your credit file. Our Privacy Notice explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and your rights under UK GDPR.
8. Complaints
If you are unhappy, contact our Complaints Manager at help@servingfoxes.co.uk or on 020 4569 1189, or write to our registered office. We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days and send a final response within 8 weeks. See our Complaints Procedure.
If we cannot resolve it, or you are unhappy with our final response, you may be able to refer it free of charge:
| Complaint about | Ombudsman | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Energy broking | Energy Ombudsman | energyombudsman.org · 0330 440 1624 |
| Insurance and regulated finance | Financial Ombudsman Service | financial-ombudsman.org.uk · 0800 023 4567 |
The Financial Ombudsman Service usually requires you to refer within six months of our final response. Eligibility depends on the size of your business and the product involved; not every business or product is covered.
9. Cancellation, conflicts and general terms
Ending our service. You may stop using us at any time by telling us; this does not cancel a contract you have already signed with a provider. Cancellation rights under a provider's contract are set by that provider's terms.
Conflicts of interest. If our interests, or those of a provider, could conflict with yours, we will tell you before we act and explain how we will manage it. If we cannot manage it fairly, we will not act.
Liability. We are responsible for the service we provide to you. We are not responsible for a provider's performance, pricing changes, credit decisions or claims decisions. Our full terms are in our Terms & Conditions.
Law. This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
10. Acknowledgement
Before we act for your business, we will ask you to confirm that you have read and understood this Initial Disclosure, including how Serving Foxes is paid, and that you are authorised to act on behalf of the business.
